Nizza Bansella DOCG 2021 Prunotto
Barbera Bansella Nizza is a DOCG wine from the renowned Prunotto winery, which was acquired by the Antinori family in 1989. The grape variety used for this wine is Barbera, commonly referred to in the feminine (la Barbera), native to the Piemonte region and vinified in purity. It is grown in Alba, in the province of Cuneo, where the calcareous and sandy soil imparts the wine's organoleptic characteristics. The medium-sized, deep blue grapes are marked by a high level of acidity. The grape variety is well-adapted to various climatic conditions, resistant to wind and drought, although sensitive to extreme cold and frost. The harvest takes place in the last weeks of September, with hand-picking. Once the grapes arrive at the winery, they undergo destemming to separate the berries from the stems, followed by crushing. The maceration lasts for 7 days at a controlled temperature, not exceeding 28°C. After the wine is extracted from the must, fermentation (both alcoholic and malolactic) is completed before the winter season begins. The aging process lasts for 9 months and takes place in small barrels, both new and used, which impart fresh aromas from the new barrels and delicate fragrances from the used ones. This complex process results in a semi-aromatic wine of excellent quality.
