Mompertone DOC 2020 Prunotto

The "Mompertone" is a blend of Barbera and Syrah that speaks in the Piedmont dialect. The vineyards that give birth to this red wine are located in Calliano, in the lower Monferrato area. The producing winery is Prunotto, owned by the Antinori family. After making Tuscan Bordeaux-style blends famous, the Antinori family wanted to test themselves with the terroir of Piedmont, both in Langhe and Monferrato. Today, the winery's vineyards extend in both areas, covering a total of 50 hectares. 11 of these are dedicated to the production of Mompertone, a wine that combines the pure and territorial tradition of Barbera with the bold yet refined personality of Syrah. The Monferrato Rosso Mompertone comes from vineyards located 300 meters above sea level, planted on clay soils with numerous sandy veins. When the winery deems it the optimal time for harvest, the grape picking begins. The clusters are brought to the cellar, destemmed, and crushed. The resulting must undergoes alcoholic fermentation followed by malolactic fermentation. After these stages, the wine matures for a period of 10-12 months in both barriques and large casks and completes its aging in the bottle, with an additional wait of about 6 months.
