Friulano Rassauer 2022 DOC Castello di Spessa

The Collio Friulano DOC Rassauer Castello di Spessa is one of the finest expressions of Friulano from the Castello di Spessa winery. Created in stainless steel with a brief maceration to extract more aromas from the Friulano grapes, this wine is aged solely in steel until the end of March, and then allowed to rest. The Friulano white wine from Castello di Spessa is made from grapes coming from about twenty-year-old vines grown in the Còrmons area, within the company's estate in the Isonzo region. The soils are predominantly composed of sands and shallow clays, resting on deep alluvial deposits of pebbles and gravel, very draining, and particularly suitable for white grape varieties. The clusters are harvested at the beginning of September and taken to the cellar, where they are gently pressed. The free-run must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16-18°C. Before bottling, the wine rests for several months in steel vats on fine lees to enrich the aromatic profile and gain more structure. The Friulano wine from Castello di Spessa is a wine of tradition. The Sauvignonasse grape variety arrived in Friuli from the Bordeaux region at the end of the 19th century. Unfortunately renamed Tocai, it had to later change its name to Friulano to avoid confusion with the famous Hungarian Tokaji wine.
