Chardonnay LaFoa DOCG 2021 Colterenzio

The Chardonnay “Lafoà” is one of the standout products from Colterenzio’s lineup in Appiano. This bottle is part of the “selections” line, a name that harkens back to the significant quality revolution initiated in the 1980s by Colterenzio, a cooperative that began a path focused on absolute quality and low vineyard yields during that period. This challenging path has, within a few decades, led to the creation of labels like “Lafòa,” where Chardonnay grapes are expressed at exceptional levels. Both the nose and palate are filled with personality and character, with a refreshing component that makes each sip truly enjoyable. The “Lafòa” Chardonnay is a pure expression of the variety, sourced from old vines trained with the espalier method, growing in vineyards at altitudes between 400 and 550 meters above sea level. The terroir is primarily made up of morainic and sandy subsoil. The vineyards adhere to organic farming principles, with yields deliberately kept low at around 45 quintals per hectare to promote the development of a few but significant grape clusters. The carefully selected grapes, once harvested, are fermented in both new and used barriques and undergo malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures for 10 months in oak barrels, both new and used. The Chardonnay “Lafòa” presents a golden yellow color, luminous and enticing in the glass. The olfactory profile boasts a bouquet of fruity and floral notes, evolving into buttery aromas. On the palate, it is full-bodied, soft, round, and complete, with a sip that flows with remarkable freshness. This label exemplifies Colterenzio’s ability to achieve significant qualitative peaks, as demonstrated by the numerous accolades from major Italian and international guides.
