Barbera VHO colli tortonesi 2017 Claudio Mariotto

The Barbera "Vho" from the winery of Claudio Mariotto is a red wine that originates in the Colli Tortonesi region, an area of Piedmont near the Ligurian border, where this historic grape variety expresses itself with intense and pleasantly rich wines. This version of Barbera showcases good aromatic complexity. The choice of a long aging process in wood tends to soften the lively youthful exuberance typical of the grape, favoring a more harmonious and balanced profile. It is a red wine that expresses beautiful fruity notes of cherry, sour cherry, seductive nuances of vanilla, and spices, all contributing to a rich and multifaceted aromatic picture. The Barbera "Vho" is one of the most well-known labels from Claudio Mariotto, a historic name in the Colli Tortonesi region, who manages a family estate with origins dating back to the early 1900s. The winery has maintained an artisanal face and has always focused on enhancing the historic grapes of the Tortona area: Timorasso, Barbera, and Cortese. The vineyards cover about 26 hectares and are located at an altitude of 250 to 300 meters above sea level. Its wines are highly appreciated by enthusiasts for their strong territorial imprint and for their expressive immediacy, characterized by great frankness and authenticity. Claudio Mariotto's "Vho" is a pure Barbera with a strong and mature character, influenced by the mild climate of the Alessandria area, which allows for full maturation of the grapes. It is made from the best clusters from vineyards cultivated in Vho, at an altitude of 250 meters with southeast exposure, on medium-textured soils of calcareous-clay origin. After the classic red vinification process, with maceration on the skins for about ten days, the wine matures in small barrels for 12 months.
