Barbaresco 2020 DOCG Produttori del Barbaresco

The Barbaresco from the cooperative winery Produttori del Barbaresco is a typical expression of the denomination, characterized by fine elegance and significant structure. Until 1894, the Nebbiolo grapes cultivated in the Barbaresco area were either used for the production of Barolo or vinified as table wine. It was Domizio Cavazza who recognized that the qualities of Barbaresco's Nebbiolo deserved their own label. He decided to unite local grape growers to vinify at the Barbaresco castle, naming the labels after the town. After Cavazza's death, in the 1920s, the social winery closed, and in 1958, the parish priest of Barbaresco, Don Fiorino Marengo, decided to revive that tradition by bringing together 19 local farmers and founding the winery Produttori del Barbaresco. The Barbaresco from Produttori del Barbaresco is made solely from Nebbiolo grapes sourced from various vineyards in the Barbaresco area. The vineyards, situated at an average altitude of 250 meters above sea level, are planted in clay-limestone soils with sandy veins. After harvest, the clusters are crushed in stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation, which is accompanied by about 28 days of maceration on the skins. After the completion of malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for 20 months in large 50-hectoliter oak barrels.
