Nizza Tre Roveri DOCG 2020 Pico Macario

Pico Maccario produces "Tre Roveri" within the most highly regarded terroir for the Barbera grape in Monferrato: Nizza, a name that boldly stands alone on the label, without reference to the varietal, to emphasize the inseparable connection between man and nature. The Nizza "Tre Roveri" from Pico Maccario is made from the pure vinification of Barbera grapes sourced from the territory around the town of Mombaruzzo, where the winery is located, in the corner of Monferrato nestled between the Tanaro and Bormida rivers to the north and east, and bordered to the west by the Nizza Monferrato wine region. The landscape is characterized by gentle, wide hillsides rising to about 200 meters above sea level, composed of ancient riverbed soils with a medium-textured and clay-rich structure. The famous colored stakes dot the horizon, marking the boundaries of the estate vineyards, accompanied by 4,500 rose plants of a single clone, planted at the head of each row as per ancient tradition to signal potential vine diseases. Harvest begins when the grapes are fully ripe, and the bunches are gently destemmed and crushed before undergoing a 20-day maceration on the skins in stainless steel tanks, while the alcoholic fermentation takes place simultaneously. The wine is aged in oak barrels of various sizes for 12 months, followed by a few months of bottle aging to complete the winemaking process.
